Mt. Vernon graduate Lacy Stokes is really good at basketball. That much was evident during her four years with the Lady Mt’neers. Now she is taking it to Missouri Southern and showing the Lady Lion faithful what Mt’neer country already knew.
Stokes opened eyes when she led the Lady Lions with 19 points against D1 Wichita State in a preseason exhibition. In fact, she has led the Lady Lions in points in every game except for a win at Missouri S&T. However, last Thursday in the MIAA opener against Central Oklahoma she went nuclear. Actually, she did what no freshman in Missouri Southern women’s basketball has ever done—she led the team with 33 points, setting an MSSU freshman record.
“I knew coming in knowing there’s a lot on my shoulders with them asking me to lead and I have been doing that for the last four years, so I was prepared. I don’t focus on the outside stuff but just want to do what’s best for the team and play hard for them,” Stokes said.
Stokes has been lighting it up for MSSU averaging nearly 20 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 2.8 steals in the first six games of the season—all of which lead the team.
