The Mt. Vernon High School Show Choir “Vocal Motion” took their audience on a thrilling adventure this year. Since the beginning of February, they have competed in five competitions. the Joplin High School “In the Spotlight” Show Choir Competition, on Feb. 3; the “The SHO” at Neosho High School on Feb. 10; the “Nevada Show Choir Classic” on Feb. 17; the Carthage  High School “Soundfest” on Feb. 24; and they closed out their season with the Webb City “Show Choir Showcase” on March 4.
They performed their competition program titled “The Woods” which was their version of The Little Red Riding Hood story. It starts out very happy and fun, with the kids heading to grandma’s house. It then turns a bit darker when she meets the wolf who ends up making it to grandma’s house first.  The show ends with a battle between Little Red and the wolf. Little Red wins, of course.
The results? They won first place in class 3A in Joplin and Nevada; first place in class 3A and fourth runner up in finals in Webb City; first place in small school and third runner up in finals in Carthage; and third place in small schools in Neosho.
Vocal Motion director, April McBaine said, “Looking back on our season it has been amazing to see the growth of this show and of the kids. These are some amazing young people, and I am so proud of who they are on and off of the stage.  They are hard working, talented and beautiful individuals that have given all of their heart to this program. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to watch this show come to life and to see these kids come to life on the stage.  I know that our season has come to an end, but I am looking forward to what next year will bring.”
