Nyanzia Garner

Nyanzia Garner, 97, of Mt. Vernon passed away April 24, 2021, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.  She was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Miller the daughter of Emery Lee and Sarah Irene “Rena” (Ross) Welsh.
Garner was the laundry supervisor at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon and was a member of the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church.
On Nov. 29, 1943, she married Leon Roy Garner, in Mt. Vernon.  He preceded her in death on May 16, 1989.
Garner is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Jimmy) Lawmaster of Mt. Vernon; son-in-law, Terry Sexton of Ozark; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Garner was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Roy Garner; daughter, Barbara Sexton; sisters, Mary Jones, Neoma Vance, Onalee Holland and Flora Farrell and brothers, Martin, and Emery Welsh.
A funeral service was held May 1, 2021, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Burial followed at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.
