Opal LaVonne Baldwin, 85, of Mt. Vernon passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, at her home in Mt. Vernon. She was born Dec. 30, 1938, in Afton, Okla., the daughter of Everett and Gladys (Nelson) Maples.
She worked as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital in Aurora and was a member of the Faith Full Gospel Church in Aurora.
She married James Leon Baldwin and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by four daughters, Debbie Hall of Texarkana, Texas, Teresa (Jim) Harris of Aurora, Rebecca (Bob) Price of Mt. Vernon and Cindy (Ryan) Crouch of Cassville; one sister, Carolyn (Ivy) Pendleton of Sherman, Texas; one brother, Max Maples of Olathe, Kan.; son-in-law, Joe Bizek of Pflugerville, Texas; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; son, Michael Cates; daughter, Jean Ann Bizek; son-in-law, Wayne Hall and sister-in-law, Oleda Maples.
