A Pierce City boy died in an automobile collision in Newton County on Monday, April 14.
According to a traffic crash report filed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 55-year-old Granby man was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer near Highway J, three miles east of Diamond, when he failed to yield to a 2003 Ford F250 being driven westward by Shaun Courtney, 45, of Pierce City, and the vehicles collided (MSHP traffic crash reports do not identify those involved in traffic accidents, but Courtney and his family were named in a GoFundMe page).
Courtney, his wife, Meghan Courtney, and their son, Luke, 8, all received minor injuries in the crash, but the Courtneys’ other son, Fynn, 6, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Ethan Reznicek. The Granby driver also suffered minor injuries. All involved in the accident were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Fynn was taken to the Newton County Coroner’s office; the others injured in the accident were taken to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Courtney family with a fundraising goal of $28,000. As of press time, it had raised $25,890, or 92 percent of its fundraising goal. An account called the Fynn Courtney Memorial at First State Bank was also reported as taking contributions for the Courtney family.
