Rayola Proffer

Rayola Proffer, 93, of Aurora passed away on April 6, 2021. She was born on June 14, 1928 in Junction, Texas to Clarence F. ‘Shinny’ and Lula Burt (née Hodges) Chenault, the youngest of seven children. She attended the Evergreen one-room grade school near Telegraph, Texas and graduated from Junction High School in Junction, Texas in 1946. She went on to Durham’s Business College in Harlingen, Texas graduating in 1947 and became a valued and successful secretary in her long career. She was working at Kelly Field Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas when she met Elvis Proffer, then a Sergeant in the Air Force after returning from WW2. They were married in 1950 and remained so until Elvis’ death in 2019. They raised sons, Terril R., and Jerril G. Proffer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Blake Chenault, Nunelee Chenault, Jimmy Chenault, and sisters, Polly Majirus and Bernice Howard. She is survived by her son, Terril of Westminster, Colo.; son, Jerril (Beverly) of Gillette Wyo.; beloved sister and closest friend, Joyce Tumlinson of San Antonio Texas and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 16 at 2 p.m. in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield under the care of Peterson Funeral Chapel.
Visitation will be held Friday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the funeral home.
