RUTH MARGARETE NELSON

Ruth Margarete Nelson, 98, of Mt. Vernon passed away on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center. She was born in Fairland, Okla. on Feb. 26, 1927; the daughter of Otto and Elizabeth (Steffens) Rubin.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Freistatt American Legion Auxiliary, Trinity Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Trinity Lutheran Church.
On Jan. 12, 1952, she married Verner G. Nelson, in Fairland, Okla. They were married for over 57 years before he passed away on June 14, 2009.
She is survived by five children: Clarence Nelson of Pierce City, Richard (Vickie) Nelson of Springfield, Cheryl (David) Stotts of Monett, John (Mary Beth) Nelson of Mt. Vernon and Sandra (Tom) Baker of Wildwood; one sister-in-law, Vi Schulze of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verner; seven siblings and his daughter-in-law, Teresa Nelson.
Services were held on Tuesday, May 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt. Burial followed at the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
