VERNA K. WARE

Verna K. Ware, age 87 of Aurora, Missouri passed away peacefully Friday, October 4, 2024, in Mercy Hospital Aurora after a short illness. Verna was born September 29, 1937, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri to KV (Dinger) and Bertha Weber Baugh of Mt. Vernon.
Verna was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and had many lifelong friends that she kept in touch with throughout her life.
She met her husband, Jack Ware, an Aurora Houn Dawg, at the Aurora swimming pool when she was 16 and they were married in 1955. They were happily married for 69 years.
Verna had many talents in her lifetime. She was an excellent seamstress, quilted many quilts, knitted beautiful baby blankets and clothes, and knitted over 100 sweaters for children through the Guidepost Outreach program. She was an accomplished athlete excelling in tennis and golf and a talented cook and wonderful bookkeeper. She was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church and Aurora United Methodist Church, but most of all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Verna also had read the Bible through many times.
Verna is survived by her husband Jack; son, Mitchel Ware and daughter-in-law Judy; daughter, Mona Thach and son-in-law Mike; five grandchildren: Jake (Amy) Ware, Josh  (Bea) Ware, Jackson (Mary Kate) Ware, Nic (Christy) Thach; and Spencer (Dani) Thach; seven great-grandchildren: Lincoln Ware, Audrey Ware, Walker Ware, Addison Thach, William Thach, Olivia Thach and Amelia Thach; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jim Yarbrough; and many other family members and dear friends.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, KV (Dinger) and Bertha (Weber) Baugh; grandson, Jack Michael Thach, whom she loved dearly; and her sister-in-law, Mary Ware Lawson.
Visitation and services under the direction of Peterson Funeral Home, were held on Tuesday, October 8, at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Internment followed at Orange Cemetery in north Aurora.
Donations may be made through the Peterson Funeral Home to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Jack Thach/Jack Ware Memorial Scholarship Fund (Aurora Area Community Foundation).
