A Mt. Vernon man avoided prison when he pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree elder abuse on Thursday, March 21. Marvin Periman, 66, received two years of probation and a suspended one-year jail sentence after accepting a plea deal with the Christian County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis has appointed Scott E. Spencer to its Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council for a three-year term starting in 2019. Spencer is vice chairman, president and CEO of Sterling Bank, headquartered in Poplar Bluff.
