Announcement cites “conflict of interest”

Six firefighters with the Miller Rural Fire Department, including the chief, deputy chief and a lieutenant, have resigned. In a posting on the department’s Facebook page dated Tuesday, Dec. 19, the poster, who said they were the deputy chief (name not given), stated they were resigning due to a “conflict of interest.”
“It is not that we did not like serving the community,” the post stated. “That should be evident in an upcoming ISO rating (Fire Insurance Rating) for the district. It is, however, due to a conflict of interest with the Board of Directors.”
A person who answered the phone at the number for Fire Chief Anthony McBaine said he was “not making any comments” and hung up. Media inquires to the department through their Facebook page and at the fire station received no reply as of press time.
The Lawrence County Record will continue to report on this story as more information becomes available.
