Almost Candy Bars
The Record’s “Recipe of the Week”:
Almost Candy Bars by Barbara Grier
1 pkg. devil’s food cake mix
1/2 cup butter
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup coconut, if desired
1 cup chopped nuts
1 can sweetened condensed milk
Preheat oven to 350°.
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix and butter with a pastry blender or fork until crumbly. Sprinkle evenly in the bottom of a 9x13 baking pan. Press lightly.
Sprinkle the chips, coconut, and nuts over the cake mix mixture. Pour the condensed milk evenly over all ingredients.
Bake at 350° for 20-30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
NOTE: I use the entire packages of chips and nuts.
