Mt. Vernon went 2-1 last week as Big 8 play continues to roll with a big win versus Marshfield, Tuesday before getting another one in Hollister, Wednesday. The week ended with a loss Friday against Catholic.
The Mt’neers opened the week against a very good Marshfield team that featured one of the top scorers in the conference, but Landon Jones and Jarrett Zerby came ready to play and dominated the Jays 61-45. The next night they traveled to Hollister where the opponent was not nearly as talented and Mt. Vernon made it four straight wins in a 63-27 win over the Tigers. The win streak ended when the hot shooting Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish held the Mt’neers to just 37 points in a 49-37 Irish win.
The Mt’neers improve to 11-11 for the year with two big games this week in Monett on Tuesday, before returning home against McDonald County, Friday.
