Cherie N. McCullah

Cherie N. McCullah, age 56, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 11:43 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at her home.  She was born October 21, 1962, in Pomona, California, the daughter of James R. and Betty C. (Hinkle) McCullah.
Cheri was a 1980 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and graduated from Missouri State University in Springfield with a double major.  She attended language school in Costa Rica and was fluent in Spanish.  Cherie was a missionary to Paraguay, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica working in children’s ministries and homes for abused children.  She worked in children’s ministries at the Assembly of God Church on the Loop and also in churches in California.
Cherie worked for UMOS in Mt. Vernon with migrant worker’s children.  She loved the Lord with all her heart, and devoted her life to helping children in anyway she could.  She was in the process of adopting a family of four children when she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Cheri started her own home “Residence of Life” for abused and orphaned children in Costa Rica. This was her lifelong dream.  She was in her seventh year and in the process of building ten homes with ten children each.  Residence of Life has a very capable board and staff that are committed to continuing her vision.  Cherie returned to the United States in February 2018 and has battled cancer for over a year.
Cherie is survived by her parents, James and Betty of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Robert (Judy) McCullah of Mission, Texas; five nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Steve) Davis of Mt. Vernon, Stephen (Heather) McCullah, Brandon (Paige) McCullah, Jacob McCullah and Elizabeth McCullah, all of Mission, Texas and seven great-nieces and nephews.
A visitation was held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with a funeral service that followed at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the Residence of Life, in care of the funeral home.
