Chocolate Cherry Cake

The Record’s “Recipe of the Week”:
Chocolate Cherry Cake by Eunice Clevenhager

CAKE:
1 pkg. fudge cake mix
21 oz. can cherry fruit filling
1 tsp. almond extract
2 eggs, beaten

FROSTING:
1 cup sugar
5 T. butter or margarine
1/2 cup milk
6 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate pieces

For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350°. Using solid shortening, grease and flour
a 13x9x2 pan. Combine all the cake ingredients in a large bowl. Stir by hand until
well mixed. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.

For the frosting: In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, butter and milk. Boil
one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate pieces
until smooth. Pour over cake.
