Christmas Crack(le)

The Record’s “Recipe of the Week”:
Christmas Crack(le) by Della Myers

10 oz. pkg. soda crackers
1 cup butter (not margarine)
1 cup brown sugar, packed
12 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 400°. Line a cookie sheet with foil and grease very lightly.

Place the crackers in a single layer on the cookie sheet. Use more or fewer crackers as needed to cover entire sheet, no spaces.

In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the butter and brown sugar. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes only. Pour over the crackers.

Bake in preheated oven for 5 to 8 minutes. Will be bubbly. Sprinkle the chips evenly over the top and return to the oven for just a minute to soften the chocolate.

Spread the melted chocolate and add toppings, if desired, of crushed peppermints or crushed Christmas-colored M&M’s.

Chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours or until set. Break into pieces and store in a sealed container.
