Crash claims Aurora man, second driver charged with multiple felonies including DWI, possible additional charges
An Aurora man has died from injuries sustained in a head on crash last week on U.S. Highway 60 near Verona. At approximately 9:46 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, officers responded to a head-on accident call not the relatively busy highway, just west of its intersection with Law. Co. 1160.
The Missouri Highway Patrol investigation revealed that Jared J. Lueders, 38, of Aurora was traveling eastbound on US-60 in a 2013 Ford F150 driven when he crossed the center line and struck a 2004 Ford F150 driven by Mance Wilkerson, 82, of Aurora--head on.
Wilkerson, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. Lueders, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment of serious injuries.
Mance passed away in the hospital three days later, as a result of his injuries.
Lueders was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the accident and was arrested and charged with Felony DWI, careless and imprudent driving and no seatbelt, but was released for medical treatment.
It is unknown what additional charges will be filed against Lueders following the death of Wilkerson.
