Girls Scouts help out at MV Community Garden

Community Gardeners welcome Girl Scouts for community service project. Front, l-r, Eevie Jones, Josie Meyer,  2nd  Troop Leader Stacey Morris, Marsha Jones, Community Garden President Kenny Aughe, Reta and Darren McCutcheon, Barbara Coy and Don Rogers.

Mount Vernon Girl Scouts Eevie Jones and Josie Meyer are working to advance to Silver Badge rank by partnering with Mount Vernon Community Garden. One of the Silver Badge requirements for 13- and 14-year-old scouts is 50 hours of community service.
Mount Vernon Community Gardeners offered to mentor the girls at the garden, as well as afford them access to the Mount Vernon Farmers’ Market.
After selecting a garden plot, the Scouts were allowed to select seeds to be planted and germinated at home until the weather permits transplanting at the garden. Flower and vegetable seeds were favorites. The girls want to build a wren house for the water garden now under construction on the Woodlawn Street side of the Community Garden.
