Youngsters unite at Spirit of ‘76 Park
The Mt. Vernon Parks and Recreation Department held their annual Halloween Egg Hunt on Monday, Oct. 30, at the Spirit of ’76 Park. The event, which was postponed from Saturday due to weather, saw an estimated 80 children attend. Due to the fields being muddy after the rain over the weekend, the treat-filled eggs were handed out to the children like Trick-or-Treat candy instead of them collecting them. The event included a costume contest, in which the four children with the best costumes won pumpkins and pumpkin carving kits. In addition to the eggs, the children were treated to hot dogs, popcorn, cookies and warm apple cider.
Geoff Ford said this might be his last year to host the Halloween Egg Hunt, and said if he retires, he hopes his successor will continue the tradition he started 22 years ago.
