Johnnie Charles Lind

Johnnie Charles Lind, age 82, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed away at 10:52 a.m. on Mon- day, September 28, 2026, surrounded by family and close friends. He was born July 21, 1944, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, the son of the late Harvey and Clara (Letze) Lind, where he resided for 78 years. A 1962
graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Johnnie committed 21 years with the 203rd Engineering Battalion of the Army National Guard serving as Sergeant First Class. He was a hard-working provider, retiring from Silgan Company after 30 years of dedicated service and went on to work for the City of Mt. Vernon for another 20 years before his second retirement.
On August 25, 1967, he married Sondra Jo Bowman in Hoberg, Missouri. Together they settled in Mt. Vernon, where they spent their years managing work, dairy farming, and family time. Together they found joy in gardening, cooking, raising their boys, and later in life spending time with their grandchildren.
Johnnie enjoyed providing support and service any chance he could from coaching foot- ball and baseball, supporting the Mt. Vernon Booster Club, to being a long-time member of the Freistatt Lions Club. He was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2000 for his dedication to service.
Johnnie is survived by two sons, Casey Lind and his wife, Amanda, of Bentonville, Arkansas and Chad Lind and his wife, Allison, of Neosho, Missouri; five grandchildren, Carter, Kohyn, Noah, Lydia and Hunter Lind; one sister, Viola Preston and her husband, Edward, of Chester- field, Missouri; brother-in-law, Larry Bowman and his wife, Paula, of Monett, Missouri and dear friend, Pam Schoen (and family) of Monett, Missouri.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, with burial to follow at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, in the funeral home chapel.
