The Mt. Vernon Lady Mt’neers lost their only game of the week to Big 8 frontrunner Marshfield, Thursday night, 71-24.
The Lady Jays have a formidable two-headed beast in seniors Lauren Luebbert and Abby McBride. Luebbert got her 11th point of the opening quarter near the buzzer to push Marshfield to 16-4 at the first break.
The second quarter opened in a near perfect way for the Lady Jays in a 20-1 run.
Marshfield continued the run starting with Halle Menzies to open the third quarter. Then Luebbert took over once again, going on a 6-0 run herself to extend the lead 47-11. Marshfield dominated the remainder of the third quarter as they cruised to the turbo clock victory.
Mt. Vernon was led by eight from Cheyenne Bieber, followed by six from Addie Hall, Aubree Rogerson and Emmie Schubert. Mary Fields and Madison Rinker wrapped up scoring with two apiece.
Mt. Vernon returned to the court Monday against a team competing with Marshfield for the top of the Big 8 standings, Logan-Rogersville, before traveling to Reeds Spring, Thursday.
