Mt’neers bounce back with pair of Big 8 wins

Mt. Vernon improved in Big 8 play with a pair of good wins over McDonald County and East Newton last week.
Play began on Tuesday as the Mt’neers started at home against the Mustangs from McDonald County. The Mt’neers used their balanced attack to take care of the Mustangs early on and Mt. Vernon cruised to a 65-31 victory.
The Mt’neers looked to build off the victory against a very good East Newton squad Friday night on the road. The size of the Patriots gave Mt. Vernon problems early on and the teams were battling back and forth all night. Mt. Vernon built a lead and held on for a slim 42-37 victory.
The Mt’neers improve to 13-7 for the season including a 3-1 mark in Big 8 play. They opened the week Tuesday against Lamar at home before returning to the court Friday in Cassville.
