Mt. Vernon High School senior Phillips builds on resumé
Takes first in Jr. Optimist Tournament and Harold Kirk Junior Golf Tournament
Mt. Vernon High School senior, Madi Phillips, has been really busy this summer. She has competed in multiple golf tournaments throughout southwest Missouri and has been bringing home the hardware.
She competed in the Annual Horton Smith Masters at Horton Smith Golf Course in Springfield on June 7, where she tied for fourth place; the 61st Annual Carthage junior golf tournament at Carthage Municipal Golf Club on June 12, where she placed fifth out of nine; then the Marshfield Jr. Optimist Golf Tournament at Whispering Oaks Golf Course on June 20, where she took first place in her division. She quickly returned to the greens on July 23, for the Harold Kirk Junior Golf Tournament at Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin where she again won first place out of nine. She finished up her summer season on July 25, in the SMJGA Championship tournament. This was a two day tournament, at the end of day one she was in fifth place which qualified her for the second day, however, the second day rained out and had to be rescheduled.
Area students participate in the tournaments to get practice and build their resumés.
While Phillips has been playing some of her best games this summer she has also been a standout on the Mt. Vernon Girls Golf Team for the past three years and it’s safe to say she is going to again shine on the course for her senior season.
