Jaylon Taylor, a dietary worker at the Missouri Veterans Home, Mt. Vernon, was named the Missouri Health Care Association Employee of the Year on Sept. 12.
Taylor was nominated by his peers and was named the Employee of the Year in District 4. After this, Taylor was taken to Branson for an award ceremony, where he and nominees from two other districts were among the hopefuls to win the award. Taylor’s name was called.
“As a team member, Jaylon has always shown kindness and respect to the Veterans who call Mt. Vernon home,” said Executive Director of the Missouri Veterans Commission Paul Kirchhoff. “Excellence in all we do is a core value at the commission, and Jaylon embodies this with his heart for service.”
Taylor has been working in the veterans home for about seven years. In an interview, he described the enjoyment he gets from his duties.
“I love this job and I love working with all of the people,” he said.
According to a release by the Missouri Veterans Commission, on top of his duties in the dietary department, Taylor also makes himself available on his days off to offer worship services for veterans on Saturday mornings. Even during quarantine, Taylor would record the service ahead of time to be played on the televisions inside the facility. His services have recently grown so popular, that there often isn’t room in the chapel, with the services now being hosted in the dining room of the facility.
“I’m very honored to receive this and to be working with the veterans,” said Taylor, “I give God all the glory.”
