Maxons also charged with failing to meet children’s educational requirements
Three people are facing charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree property damage after they were allegedly caught breaking into and stealing items from storage units in Pierce City.
Daniel Caddick, 38, of Verona and Justin Maxon, 35, and Trisha Maxon, 33, formerly of Aurora and now living in Springfield, were each taken into custody on Wednesday, March 22. Caddick was released from custody on Thursday, March 23, and Trisha Maxon was released on Friday, March 24. As of press time, Justin Maxon remained in custody. It was not immediately clear what the conditions were for Caddick and Trisha Maxon’s release.
According to the probable cause statement, all three were apprehended by a Pierce City Police officer who reported finding the three of them in a car parked at the northeast edge of the storage complex, along with bolt cutters used to cut locks off of the storage units.
Justin Maxon reportedly admitted to waiting in the car for Caddick and Trisha while they were “stealing items from the storage units.” Another party allegedly identified Caddick as the person who reportedly cut the locks on the storage units.
Trisha Maxon is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 15, for an initial appearance on the charges. According to online court records, no hearings had been scheduled for Justin Maddox or Caddick as of press time.
Justin Maxon was charged as a prior offender due to his having pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a weapon in Jackson County on Aug. 15, 2019.

Maxons also charged with failure to make sure their children attend school
In addition to the burglary and property damage charges, the Maxons are also each charged with three counts of violation of compulsory school attendance for a child. According to the probable cause statement in that case, an Aurora-Marionville Police officer reported that on Oct. 4, 2022, he was contacted by an Aurora R-8 school administrator to report two of the Maxons’ children had not been in school since Sept. 14 of that year. A school official and another police officer reportedly had tried to make contact with the Maxons because there were no numbers on the residences in the area where they lived, and several “aggressive dogs” would not allow them to get out of their vehicle.
The reporting officer stated that one child had an attendance rate of 43.05-percent as of Oct. 4, 2022, and the other had an attendance rate of 45.3-percent. A third child, who attended a different school in the district, was found to have an attendance rate of 34.83-percent.
Justin Maxon is schedule for a bench trial on these charges on Thursday, May 25. Trisha Maxon pled guilty to the charges on March 23, and was given a suspended imposition of sentence and two years of probation, with a case review scheduled in two years.
