Nutraceutical company to take over King Cash Saver building

INS Nutra to bring 25-50 new jobs into Mt. Vernon by July
 
A new nutraceutical company will manufacture and sell nutritional products out of the former King Cash Saver building located on the Loop in Mt. Vernon. INS Nutra will make supplements such as fish oil capsules, Vitamin C and other nutritional supplements in the building and sell them directly to the public in the same location. The building, formerly home to grocery operations such as Summer Fresh and King Cash Saver, has sat empty since December of 2017.
“We’re building a plant,” said Devon Bennett, president of INS Nutra. “It’s going to have a retail store in the front for the products that we make, but at the same time, it’s light manufacturing in the back.”
INS Nutra is creating the business venture in partnership with Mareth Enterprises, a profits-for-purpose company based in Purdy.
“Mareth Enterprises is actually a partner in our business,” Bennett said. “We’ll be doing a lot of the work on the inside, but they bought it and then are leasing it to us, and we’re doing a lot of the retrofitting for it.”
Because of its proximity to several interstate highways, such as I-44, I-49 and I-70, Mt. Vernon was an ideal location for the plant, said Bennett.
“It’s really kind of a hub,” he said.
Bennett said INS Nutra is scheduled to open for business sometime between May and July and will bring several new jobs into Mt. Vernon.
“It will employ somewhere between 25 and 50 people when it gets going,” he said.
Nutraceuticals are not commonly manufactured in the midwest, Bennett said, so the plant will be somewhat unique for Lawrence County.
“It’s one of the first of its kind in this area,” he said. “Most of the time, the manufacturing that we’re doing is being done on the coast, so it hopefully brings some high-paying jobs back to the city of Mt. Vernon.”
Bennett added that he looks forward to seeing INS Nutra operate in Mt. Vernon.
“We’re very excited to be in the city of Mt. Vernon,” he said. “They have been very helpful in getting us started.”
