Red, White and Boom seeks donations

Fans of Mt. Vernon’s annual Fourth of July celebration Red, White and Boom are kindly asked to make a donation to continue the community event. Funding for Mt. Vernon’s summer centerpiece comes from private donations, and is not city sponsored, as in other municipalities.

Three arrested for suspected burglary

Three people are currently out on bail after they were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and theft of items worth $750 or more.

El Maya Mexican Grill opens

El Maya Mexican Grill opened on the Mt. Vernon square Friday, May 3. Located just west of the courthouse, El Maya features an extensive menu with several different lunch and dinner options, including fajitas, burritos, chimichangas and enchiladas, among many other items. Hours are from 11 a.m.

Work on Aurora’s Highway 39 $6 million overpass project could restart this month

Construction on the Highway 39 overpass just outside of Aurora could begin again as early as the middle of the month, a MoDOT engineer said.

MVHS graduation time changed

Thanks to a scheduling conflict with the Mt. Vernon High School softball team’s final four appearance on Friday, May 17, the Mt. Vernon High School graduation start time has been changed from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The location and date remains unchanged.
