An engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation stated that a rumor surrounding a delay in the construction of a railroad overpass on Highway 39 just north of Aurora is simply a case of false information.

A Carthage man has pleaded guilty to the 2015 murder of a Mt. Vernon man. Robert Paul Waite, Jr. pled guilty to second degree murder on Tuesday, Dec. 11. Waite, 53, killed Kevin Stafford on Aug. 9, 2015. Stafford was 32 when he was murdered.

The city of Miller has $11,000 more in income than projected, and has reduced spending by about $25,000. Mayor Stacy Daniels reported the income and spending figures during the Miller Board of Aldermen meeting on Thursday, Dec. 13.

The Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen passed two ordinances at their Dec. 11 town meeting authorizing earlier agreed-upon contracts regarding the remodeling of city hall and the sale of 115 acres of city land.

One sport I never thought I would hear introduced as a Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) sanctioned activity has become a reality this winter. The sport, wrestling, is not new. The fact that girls have been allowed to participate on the boy’s team is not even new.

Andrew Koch will observe Christmas this year, and likely many more holidays, in prison after his probation was revoked. He will serve his original 10-year sentence for child molestation.
