‘Crazy for You’ showcased at MARC

The Mt. Vernon Community Theatre put on a production of “Crazy for You” at the MARC, July 18-19 and at the Performing Arts Center in Monett, July 20-21. The musical, written by George and Ira Gershwin, tells the story of Bobby Childs, a young man in New York City who dreams of performing on Broadway, but is trapped between a domineering mother and an equally domineering fiance, both of whom want him to give up show business. Bobby is sent by his mother to foreclose on a theater in Deadrock, Nev., but falls in love with the owner’s daughter. Above, Moose (Andrew Hoxworth) plays the stand-up bass while the rest of the cast dances in the number “Slap that Bass.” Left, Bobby, disguised as New York Broadway producer Bela Zangler, and the real Zangler (Matt Teel) move in unison as they commiserate about their troubles with women in the song “What Causes That?” (Photo by Steve Chapman)
