Alvus Lee “Jack” Hagood

Alvus Lee “Jack” Hagood, 92, of Everton passed away Nov. 21, 2020, at his home. He was born May 25, 1928, in Norman, Okla., the son of James Clyde and Zella May (Bruesch) Hagood.
His family moved to Moreno, Calif. when he was nine years old. He lived there and worked on Hendricks Ranch until he joined the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. When he was honorably discharged out of the Army, he moved to Rubidoux, Calif., a suburb of Riverside, Calif., and went to work for a sewer pipeline construction company where he met June’s brothers and eventually June on a co-workers Grunion Hunt Beach Party in June 1954.
On March 8, 1956, he married Leora June Leach in Yuma, Ariz. at the Gretna Green Wedding Chapel they were married 64 years. They had two children born to them in California, Francine and Marvin and after moving to Missouri they adopted Jimmy.
They moved to Everton on Nov. 2, 1968, where he continued to live until his death. He framed houses with Bob Miller and Jim Holder and later he worked in Springfield building one of the Southwest Missouri State science buildings, running a jack hammer. When that job was done, he worked at the M.F.A. Mill as an oiler until his retirement at the age of 62.
He was saved in Moreno, Calif. at the age of 14. He was a member and faithful attendee of New Home Baptist Church and was a good soldier for the U.S. Army and the Lord.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Francine (David) Batson of Republic; sons, Marvin Hagood of Verona and Jimmy (Lisa) Hagood of Omaha, Ark.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ollie Hagood-Banta; one grandson and one daughter-in-law, Ranee Hagood.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
