The Strike Zone in Aurora will observe National Bowling Day on Saturday, Aug. 10, by giving one free game of bowling to everyone who comes to bowl that day from 3-6 p.m.; two free games to anyone who joins a league. Bowlers will also have a chance to win an assortment of prizes, including a $25 Amazon gift card and a $25 Price Cutter gift card.
At 7 p.m. that evening, there will also be a dance contest called “The Git Up Challenge.”
“People who want to enter the contest will get up and dance, and then we will pick the winner,” said Deb Dillman, owner of The Strike Zone.
Dillman said she hadn’t decided what the prize for the Git Up Challenge would be yet, but said it would be determined by the number of people who compete.
“The more people that come to the Git Up Challenge, the bigger that prize will end up being,” she said.
The evening will wrap up at 8 p.m. with live music provided by Randall Shreve, who is known for his production, “The Fabulous Freddie Mercury Tribute.”
“We were super excited that we were able to get him to come to Aurora,” Dillman said.
A $5 cover will be charged to see Shreve’s performance.
Dillman said bowling is one of the few sports where all members of a family can participate together.
“Bowling is still America’s largest participatory sport, and has been for years,” she said. “It’s a great way for people of all ages to do an activity together. We have customers from senior citizens all the way down to toddlers. A grandmother, son and grandson can all play together right there on the same lane. There are not very many activities that lend themselves to that. That’s one thing that makes bowling pretty special.”
The Strike Zone is located at 815 W. South Street in Aurora. For more information, call (417)678-6400, or check their Facebook page.
