Aurora Dawgs offense sputters in loss to Wolves
Aurora struggled to get things going on both sides of the ball as the Dawgs fell Friday night to the visiting Reeds Spring Wolves 44-7.
The host team was overmatched on both sides of the ball, as the offense only managed 193 total yards against a stingy Wolves defense. Kelton Brown completed seven passes for 44 yards through the air and only gathered 10 rushing yards on six carries. The bright spot once again was junior Jax Prater who found the end zone for Aurora behind his 94 yards on the ground. Evan Hartwigsen added 42 yards on five carries and senior Alex Rios got a pair of carries for three yards. Prater added a dozen yards on his lone catch of the game. Hartwigsen and Rios each got two receptions for 15 and seven yards. Tight end combo Jose Ibarra and Josh Blackburn each registered a single five-yard reception.
The defense did a good job catching the Wolves offense behind the line of scrimmage, totaling 5.5 tackles for a loss led by Jansen Hunts two such tackles. Ethan Whitlock led the way with eight tackles and grabbed 1.5 tackles for a loss. Prater added seven tackles. Hartwigsen and Hunt each totaled five tackles. Clayton Jaramillo and Ibarra added four tackles. Daunte Floyd and Trandan Darnall had two tackles. Ethan Husmann, James Schutte, Wyatt Lawson, and Josh McKinley each tallied a single tackle.
The Dawgs move to 1-6 for the year as they wrap up their home season Friday, when East Newton comes to town
