Ben William Shelton

Ben William Shelton, 80, of Marionville, passed away Dec. 29, 2020, at the Birch Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield.  He was born Sept. 27, 1940, in Springfield, the son of Loyd and Lelia (Graf) Shelton.
He was a 1958 graduate of Marionville High School. He received a B.A. degree from Drury University in 1963 and a Master of Science from Oklahoma State University in 1971. He worked at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield and American University in Washington, D.C., before retiring from Parkland College in Champaign, Ill., where he was Director of Campus Computing. He married Janet (Burson) in 1985.
He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Marionville.  
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Marian Sue Shelton-Vansant, and her husband, Thomas; stepdaughters, Melissa Ross of Seattle, Wash,, and Sarah (Danny) Wheeler of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and sister, Judy Gailey of Bolivar.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dan Shelton.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with burial at the Marionville IOOF Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora.
