Bob Gene Nichols

Bob Gene Nichols, 88, of Monett passed away Oct. 6, 2018, at his residence. Nichols was born in Toledo, Ohio, March 7, 1930, to the late Roy and Etta (Scott) Nichols. His family moved to Monett when he was 13 months old. He married Helen Ballay in 1950. He retired as warehouse manager and purchasing agent at Friend Tire Company after 40 years. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He served his country honorably with the Army National Guard achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was a lover of country and bluegrass music, playing with Country Colors Band. He was also on the board of directors at McDowell Golden Jubilee for over 30 years. He was an avid muzzle loader and trap shooter receiving several first place awards. He enjoyed horseback riding, camping, fishing and hunting.
Nichols is survived by: his wife, Clara (Burks) Blackburn, whom he married in 2009; sons, Russell (Debra) Nichols of Purdy and Bob (Lana) Nichols of Branson; daughter Regina (Dillon) Magers of Ash Grove; step-daughter, Rhonda (Bobby) Keller of Aztec, N.M.; and step-son, Joe (Debbie) Blackburn of Merriam Woods; sister, Gloria Carpenter Finn of Monett; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Helen; sisters, Christine DePriest and Mary Terrell; and brother, Jack Nichols.
Graveside service was held Oct. 9, 2018, at the Oakdale Cemetery in Monett. Rosary will be held on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett with visitation from 6:30–8 p.m. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett.
