Breakfast Sausage Apple Pie

The Record’s “Recipe of the Week”:
Breakfast Sausage Apple Pie by Caroline Breneiser

1 lb. pork sausage links, cooked and drained
1 pkg. pie crust mixed, divided
1 can apple pie filling
1 cup American or cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup packed brown sugar

Prepare half of the pie crust mix according to package directions for a 9” pie. Line the pie pan with the pastry. Flute the edges. Prick the bottom and sides with a fork. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes.

Pour the pie filling into the partially baked shell. Arrange the sausage spoke-fashion over the pie filling. Sprinkle the cheese over the apples. Combine the brown sugar with the remaining pie crust mix (do not add any liquid to it). Sprinkle over the pie. Return to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden. Serve warm.
