Charles Raymond Dawson

Charles Raymond Dawson, age 80, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away at 4:38 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the Hospice of Hamilton North Inpatient Care Center in Hamilton, Ohio. He was born September 10, 1941, in Chesapeake, Missouri, the son of Charles H. and Ruby Elizabeth (Tubbs) Dawson.
Raymond was a 1960 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He was the owner/operator of the Dawson Mobile Gas Station in Mt. Vernon and worked at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon. From 1968-1970, he served as the District Executive and Program Director for the Boy Scouts of America in Detroit, Michigan. From 1970-1988, he was the District Executive and Director of Camping for the Heart of America Council of the Boy Scouts in Kansas City, Missouri. From 1989-1998 he was the Director of Camping, District Executive, Camp Commissioner and Day Camp Archery Instructor for the Miami Valley Council of the Boy Scouts in Dayton, Ohio. He retired from scouting in 1998. From 1999-2005 he worked for the American Diabetes Association. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon 4-H Club and a member of the Summit Baptist Church.
Raymond is survived by his daughter, Sherri McFarland of Harrison, Ohio; one grandson, Mathew Brightman and his wife, Angel, of Centerville, Ohio; one sister, Virginia Evans, of Aurora, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Pamela Hanna of Republic, Missouri and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruby; son-in-law, Patrick McFarland; one brother, Kenneth Dawson; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Greg Day; brother-in-law, Jim Evans; aunt, Lucille Hillhouse and uncles, Odis Hillhouse and Arthur Carrol.
A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Burial will follow at the Summit Cemetery, southeast of Mt. Vernon.
