Christian Shayne Kay

Christian Shayne Kay, 24, of Magnolia, Texas, formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021. He was born Dec. 19, 1996, in Springfield, the son of Bill and Jennifer (Herbert) Kay. 

Kay was a 2015 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and graduated from the Southeast Lineman Training Center. He did his Ferrier apprentice under Donald Griffin and was the owner/operator of Christian Kay Performance Horseshoeing and was a member of the Branded for Christ Cowboy Church in Huntsville, Texas. 

Kay is survived by his mother, Jennifer Cook and dad of the heart, Terry Cook, of Mt. Vernon; his father, Bill Kay and his wife, Penny, of Bixby, Okla; siblings, Rehgan Batchelor (James), of Kansas City, Theron Cook (Hannah), of Mt. Vernon, Alexis Sherman (Scott), of Friendswood, Texas, Zachary and Megan Cook both of Mt. Vernon and Maddie Ellingson of Ozark, Missouri; three nephews, Talen Cook, Paxton Cook and Brady Sherman; two maternal grandmothers, Shirley Cox and Sandy Cook, both of Mt. Vernon; paternal grandmother, Pam Drake of Ozark. 

Christian was preceded in death by his maternal grandfathers, Jon Herbert and Carlos Cook, maternal great-grandparents, George and Virginia Herbert, paternal grandparents, Bob and Doris Kay and Jim Drake. 

A visitation under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the Mt. Vernon Christian Church, 1460 McVey Street, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Vernon IOOF Cemetery.
