Daoud to retire as Monett police chief, no plans for succession announced

Monett Police Chief George Daoud will retire Aug. 3, after serving the community of Monett for more than 25 years. 

Daoud began his career in Monett in December 2000 as a patrol officer. He rose through the ranks, becoming a narcotics detective in 2007. He was promoted to senior detective in the investigations unit beginning in 2012, and in October 2015, Daoud succeeded Tim Schweder, who retired as chief after nine years. 

Prior to coming to Monett, Daoud served with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and as chief of police in Sarcoxie. 

“I had the privilege to see the Monett Police Department grow in professionalism, police services, and size to meet the growing needs of the community it serves,” Daoud said. “My greatest privilege has been to work with the police officers and civilian staff at the Monett Police Department, who made my career what it is today.

“I’ve decided it’s time to begin the next chapter in life. It’s been a pleasure working here, and I genuinely appreciate the experience, collaboration, and support I’ve received over the years from the city council and city staff,” he said.

Daoud has been a popular chief, overseeing a variety of community outreach efforts. He was recruited as chief through a professional agency that the city has subsequently used to fill other administrative positions.
