Dentist Alms arrested on fraud charges

 Former Mt. Vernon dentist Dr. Thomas Alms was arrested Feb. 1 on a charge of stealing more than $750 through insurance fraud. The arrest stems from allegations leveled against Alms that he wrongly charged insurance company Cigna for dental work he never performed on a patient during an appointment in January 2017 per the probable cause statement.
Alms was in the Lawrence County Jail for just over an hour before posting bail and being released.
