Donald Max "Boone" Powell

Donald Max “Boone” Powell, age 88, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 9:44 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022. He was born May 12, 1933, in Aurora, the son of Elmer and Edith Rae (McKinley) Powell.
Boone was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Boone and Mary owned and operated Powell’s Hilltop Market and several other grocery stores in the area. Boone loved the people of north town. He let his customers trade on credit during difficult times. He had many stories to tell. After retiring Boone built houses and Head Starts with Will Hamby. He loved his grandchildren and wanted to spend time with them. He was a wonderful Dad and Papa. He will be greatly missed.
On October 27, 1956, he married Mary Ruth Bassore, in Harrison, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2007.
Boone is survived by his daughter, Kathy Kennedy and her husband, Raymond, of Aurora; two grandchildren, Pazia Kennedy and her significant other, Philip Hopper, of Morrilton, Arkansas, and Kevin Kennedy and his fiancée, Kendall Klein, of Republic, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.
Boone was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer, and Edith; ten siblings, Dorothy, Babe, Wanda, Buck, Barney, Frankie, Dean, Jean, Minnie and Lucille and niece, Shirley Nunn
A graveside service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to Three River Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
