Elizabeth Mae Law (Hunsaker)

Elizabeth Mae Law (Hunsaker) died on June 3, 2022, in Ozark, Missouri at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Dee Law (Bud), her parents Ora and Cora Hunsaker, her nephew Joel Hayward and was the last survivor of seven close-knit siblings. She is survived by her son, Samuel and his wife, Sharron; two grandchildren, Michelle and her husband Robert, and Leah and her husband Aaron; two great-grandchildren, Kirsten and Ethan; a niece, Janet Hayward, and nephews John Hayward and Billy Cunningham.
Elizabeth lived a life common to many of the Greatest Generation, but to those who knew her, she was a uniquely loving and accomplished person. She grew up on a farm in Sullivan County, Missouri, and graduated from Green City High School.  Shortly after graduation, Elizabeth joined the wartime workforce, working at the Kansas City B-25 manufacturing facility as a drafting technician. After the war, she married her husband Bud, who fought as an Army Corporal in the Northern Mariana Islands of the Pacific.
After the War, she moved with her family to Mt. Vernon, Missouri, where Bud began working for Ozark Electric Cooperative as a lineman.  Elizabeth was a working mom, and an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. She played piano by ear and could play any song after hearing it once. Elizabeth used this musical talent in service to others by playing the piano during Sunday church services.   Elizabeth also served as the treasurer for the First United Methodist Church. Elizabeth retired from the Lawrence County Collector’s Office after serving as a clerk for almost 30 years.
Elizabeth and Bud were active members of the Mt. Vernon community, and driving around town could be quickly identified by their vanity license plate, “BUD & LIZ.” Elizabeth was a prolific quilter, selling her quilts at the Ben Franklin and donating quilts to various charities. She loved Apple Butter Making Days, and always celebrated with her family and a big pot of chili.  Elizabeth was an avid gardener growing every fruit and vegetable under the sun, and canning what was not immediately eaten. She was an original health-food nut.
Later in life, Elizabeth moved to Springfield and then to Ozark, Missouri to be closer to her family. She lived the last years of her life at Riverview Manor in Ozark, Missouri, and the family appreciates the care Elizabeth received there.  Elizabeth maintained a quick wit about her living situation, cracking jokes under her breath about her living situation and her diminishing ability to care for herself. It was difficult not to visit Elizabeth during the COVID-19 pandemic, and her diminishing social contacts during this time were especially difficult for her and her family. Although Elizabeth will be greatly missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is with Bud, her parents and siblings in a better place.
Graveside services will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri at a later time.
