Floyd Raymond Thompson

Floyd Raymond Thompson, age 76, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, went to be with his Lord at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at the Select Medical Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.  He was born February 14, 1944, in Gilman City, Missouri, the son of Paul and Martha (Wynne) Thompson.
Floyd was a 1962 graduate of Jamesport High School in Jamesport, Missouri and worked in Construction in the Kansas City area.  He moved to Mt. Vernon, where he and his brother, Forrest, spent the next 30 years working together both on the job and on the farm.  He was a member of the Summit Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.
On June 6, 1964, he married Jaunita Stanton in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jaunita; one daughter, Cindy Shortt and her husband, Curtis, of Ash Grove, Missouri; one son, Mike Thompson of Fayette, Missouri; four grandsons, Deryk and Trevor Thompson and their mother, Kathy Thompson, and Cody and Colton Miller; two brothers, Duane Thompson and his wife, Beverly, of Chillicothe, Missouri and Forrest Thompson and his wife, Donna, of Stotts City, Missouri; three sisters, Virginia Mason, Nina Smith and her husband, Gary, and Charlene Armitage and her husband, Vernon, all of the Kansas City area and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He loved his family and working on the farm.  He was always there when someone needed help.  The cross that stands along I-44 near Mt. Vernon, is a testimony to his love for his Savior Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Thompson and Martha Robinson, and two sisters.
A visitation, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Burial will follow at the Summit Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made payable to the Summit Cemetery Association, Summit Baptist Church, or the Emergency Services for Children, in care of the funeral home.
