Glenn Mills

Glenn Mills was born in Lincoln, Neb., to Reed and Margaret Mills on Jan. 10,
1934. At the age of one year, the family moved to a neighborhood in the
middle of Kansas City, where Glenn grew up until he joined the Navy. On
Monday night, Oct. 12, 2020, Mills, 86, passed away in Oak Harbor, Wash., in
his chair at the home of his son, Roderick.
Growing up, Glenn was a Cub Scout, and then a Boy Scout, with his mom and
dad helping with the pack. Mills was in the R.O.T.C. in high school and
graduated from Central High School in 1952. He then joined the Navy that
same year.
After four years of service, he came home to Kansas City. He worked for a
photographer and then a job with the Bendix Corporation.
Five years later he re-enlisted in the Navy. Mills made a career of his naval
service and even volunteered to go to Vietnam as an advisor. He served in
several different locations including Alaska, Antarctica, New Zealand, Puerto
Rico, Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam. Mills retired from the Navy in 1979
with the rank ETC (Electronics Technician Chief).
While serving in the Navy and stationed in New Zealand, he started his own
family. He married Margaret and adopted her three children: Carol, Kevin and
Julie. They then added three more sons to the family: Roderick, Daniel and
Richard.
After Mills retired in 1979, he bought a house in Oak Harbor on Whidbey
Island in Washington.
Mills worked for Boing Electronics in Everett, Wash., as a civilian and then
was able to work on special projects for them at home as he got older.
Mills was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Carol Holcomb and
his sister Joan Barnes.
He is survived by his children: Kevin Mills and wife Donna, Julie Mills,
Roderick Mills, Daniel Mills and wife Cindy and Richard Mills, four
grandchildren, sister Margie Parker and husband John of Republic.
