Holiday tournament seeds set for local basketballers

Skylan Akins

One of the greatest traditions here in the Ozarks is the numerous holiday tournaments. Our Lawrence County teams will participate in two of the most prestigious, as both Mt. Vernon and Aurora teams will play in the Blue and Gold/Pink and White tournaments in Springfield. Miller boys and girls will both play in the Walnut Grove tournament.

Mt. Vernon
Mt. Vernon got tough draws on both sides of their tournament. The girls went unseeded and gets fifth seeded Skyline. The Lady Mt’neers will take on the Lady Tigers, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 27, at Weiser Gym on the Drury University campus.
The Mt. Vernon boys also go unseeded, and get to take on one of the best the Ozarks has to offer in top-seeded Nixa. They will play at 11 a.m. Dec. 27 at Hammons Student Center.

Both teams from Aurora went unseeded, as well. The girls will take on eighth-seeded Branson in a decent draw for the Lady Houn’s. They play at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27 at Weiser Gym. The boys drew the top seed in the Gold Division, as the Houn’s will see Bolivar in the opening round at 11 a.m. at JQH Arena.

Both Miller teams will play in the Walnut Grove Holiday Classic, tipping off on Dec. 22.  The boys secured the 12-seed despite their 0-3 start. They will see fifth-seeded Sparta, and superstar sophomore Jacob Lafferty at 8:30 p.m. next Wednesday at Walnut Grove. Miller girls emerge as the lone Lawrence County team receiving a higher seed than their opponent, as they get the top seed in the entire tournament. They will play 16-seed Fair Play at 4 p.m. next Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Walnut Grove.
