Jackie Ernest Harns

Jackie Ernest Harns, 73, of Joplin, passed away June 17, 2019 at the Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon.
Harns was born Dec. 20, 1945, in Joplin,to the late Charles Harns and Lillie Combs Harns. He was one of 12 children, and grew up in Joplin and Galena, Kan., graduating from Galena High School. He served in the United States Air Force where he was an aircraft mechanic. He returned to Joplin after his service, and worked for years as a mechanic, mainly with the City of Joplin and Atlas Powder, before retiring from Atlas Powder in 1994.
Survivors include: daughter, Leasa Harns of Joplin; step-daughter, Erin Hulsey of Neosho; two grandchildren; brother, Ronnie (Joanne) Harns of Kirbyville; sisters, Mary Hazelbaker of Joplin, and Helen Bromley. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Kathryn Miller Harns, who passed away in 2010; step-daughter, Regan Halsey, who also passed away in 2010; and eight brothers and sisters.
Graveside services were held June 21, 2019 at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
