Jim Moore

Jim Moore, age 91, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Quail Creek Nursing Home in Springfield,
Missouri. He was born Decem- ber 5, 1929, in Springfield, Mis- souri, the son of the late Allan and Eugenia (Masden) Moore.
He graduated from Green- wood High School where he excelled in athletics playing on an undefeated football team and in the finals of the first Blue and Gold Basketball Tournament. He was an Eagle Scout and went on to Drury University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity and where he met his life-long love of 64 years, Barbara (Esterle) Moore.
In 1952 they married and moved to Mt. Vernon, and together they owned and operated Moore’s Women’s and Men’s Apparel, in Mt. Vernon and Aurora for over 40 years. He was a lifelong mem- ber of the Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and Sunday School teacher. He was most recently a member of the Ozark Prairie (Brick) Presbyterian Church.
Jim was a tireless supporter of Mt. Vernon and Southwest Missouri serving in leadership roles on the Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce and the Board of the First Savings and Loan. Jim and fellow Chamber member Joe Sullens conceived the idea for Apple Butter Makin Days in 1967 to showcase Mt. Vernon. In 1985 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber.
His favorite pastimes were his dogs, golf, singing, and spending time with his grandkids. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two sisters, Sue Louise Moore and Mary Jean Riddle. He is survived by two sons, Allan Moore and his wife Kim (Columbia) and Stephen Moore (Republic), four grandchildren, Tyson (wife Nicole), Sarah Taub (husband Jason), Ashley Peterson (husband Eric) and Nathan Moore, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jim loved his family and organized
several family reunions. Due to Covid 19, the family has requested
for those attending the visitation and services to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon. A private funeral service and burial will be held at the Ozark Prairie Church.
If desired memorials may be made to the Hu- mane Society of Southwest Missouri, or Ozark Prairie Presbyterian Church, in care of the fu- neral home.
