Joan Irene Ross

Joan Irene (Sengpill) Ross, 86, of Mt. Vernon, passed away  Dec. 14, 2021. A memorial service will be held March 19, 2022 at St. Susanne’s Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon officiated by Father Chori Seraiah. Visitation will be at the church from 9-10 a.m., Catholic Mass at 10 a.m. with graveside service after at Campground Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Memorials may be made to St. Susanne’s Food pantry.
Ross was born on Feb. 4,1935 in Tomah, Wis. to John and Dora Sengpill. They moved to Birchwood, Wis. when she was a young girl. She married Gilbert Chester Ross on Jan. 5, 1952 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Birchwood.  They moved to Spring Valley, Wis. in 1968 and then to Mt. Vernon, in 1972, where Gilbert passed away May 26, 2019.
Gilbert and Ross raised and showed horses for 33 years and farmed from the time they were married until they retired in 1980. She was an active member at St. Susanne’s Church and assisted with the Food Pantry.  
Ross is survived by her sister Dorothy Wilder, two sons, Daniel (Becky) Ross, and Mark Ross; two daughters Catherine (Steve) Widiker and Patricia (Roni) Hendry; 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Dora Sengpill and son Steven P. Ross.  
Cremation was in the care of Holden Cremation and Funeral Service in Sparta.
