John E. Abramovitz

John E. Abramovitz, 74, of Pierce City, passed away Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021 while at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. 

Abramovitz was born Aug. 7, 1947 in Wheaton, the second son born to Edmund and RoseAnna (Miller) Abramovitz. He grew up on the family farm and worked with his parents and siblings. He graduated from Pierce City High School with the class of 1965. 

For many years, Abramovitz worked for Wells Aluminum, Monett, in Production and the Maintenance Dept. Following his retirement, he began working for Pierce City Schools, also in the Maintenance Dept. Abramovitz attended the Eastside church of Christ in Monett. 

On October 26, 1973 in Monett, Abramovitz married Kathy Smith. They had one daughter.


Abramovitz is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the home; his daughter, Jeni Haddock (Brian), of Pierce City; one grandson; seven brothers, Francis Abramovitz  (Anita), of Butterfield, Leonard Abramovitz, of Wentworth, Ralph Abramovitz ( Mary), of Wentworth, Mark Abramovitz, of Laurel, Md, Robert Abramovitz  (Shelly), Reeds, Paul Abramovitz (Mary),  Pierce City and Michael Abramovitz  (Glo), Pierce City; two sisters, Marylyn Mercer (Rick), Pierce City; Tena Abramovitz, Pierce City; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Smith and Carla Smith, of Monett; and one brother-in-law, Phil Schad, of Purdy; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


Abramovitz was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Margie Schad and two siblings in infancy; and one sister-in-law, Deena Abramovitz. 


Friends paid their respects from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16, 2021 at Buchanan Funeral Home. Private family services were held. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Neosho Christian School or to the Pierce City FFA in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett.
