The Lady Mt’neers have been on a roll this year and it has led to a No. 6 ranking in the most recent MHSFCA Softball Rankings. Mt. Vernon came into the week 15-4 with two winnable games on deck.
Mt. Vernon opened the week Tuesday, against Fair Grove (5-6). The Lady Eagles struck first in the third inning off a pair of walks and a double. Then junior Harley Daniels really locked in. From that moment on, she would retire the final 13 batters of the game. However, the Lady Eagles rode that 1-0 lead into the top of the sixth inning when Mt. Vernon manufactured three unearned runs behind a pair of hit batters, and a pair of errors by Fair Grove to take a 3-1 lead. Mt. Vernon built on the lead with a two-run single by freshman Cheyenne Bieber to secure the 5-1 win.

Versus Buffalo
The team traveled to Buffalo,Thursday to take on Buffalo (9-8). The bats of Mt. Vernon were not suppressed nearly as long, as a five-run third inning highlighted by a two-run bomb by freshman Rae Downing gave the Lady Mt’neers a 6-1 lead after three innings. Daniels locked down once again and held the Lady Bison scoreless the rest of the way. The 6-1 lead held until the seventh inning until the barrage was on, to the tune of eight Lady Mt’neer runs after the first nine batters all reached base safely. It was capped off by a two-run double by Bieber to down Buffalo, 14-1.
The undefeated week moves the Lady Mt’neers to 17-4 for the year. It will be another busy week for the Lady Mt’neers as they traveled to Sarcoxie on Monday, before traveling to Adrian for the Adrian Tournament, Friday.
