Lawrence Wayne Shorter, Jr.

Lawrence Wayne Shorter, Jr., of Lockwood, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1948 in Norwood, to Lawrence Wayne Shorter, Sr. and Ruth (Mason) Shorter. Shorter graduated from Lockwood High School in 1966, and from Missouri Rolla with a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Kay Evans on Oct. 14, 1967 in Cedarville and she preceded him in death. Shorter married Virginia Lorene (Boehne) Johnson on May 3, 2014 in Lockwood. He worked as a truck driver for Borgen Systems.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lawrence and Ruth Shorter; his wife, Carolyn Shorter; and one brother, Mel Shorter.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Shorter of the home; two sons, Alan Shorter of Scottsburg, Ind., and Scott Shorter (Teri) of Monett; one daughter, Stacy Wellinger (Vince) of Bolivar; one step-daughter, Leesa Grubaugh (Keith) of Branson; two brothers, Jim Shorter (Pam) of Lockwood and Mike Shorter (Kaye) of Lockwood; one sister, Sherry Hack (Goldie) of Surprise, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Debbie Broyles of Lockwood; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at the Lockwood Christian Church. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Lockwood Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lockwood Christian Church, the American Cancer Society, or to the Camp Hertko Hollow in Des Moines, Iowa. Services are under the care of Lockwood Funeral Chapel.
