Leslie Clyde Bass

Leslie Clyde Bass passed away Oct. 24, 2021. Preceeding him in death, his wife Dora Jane, his parents, Clyde and Jewell, brothers Don and Everett, son Gail, who passed away three years ago, and his daughter Debbie, who tragically died at age seven.
He was born in the midst of the Great Depression on April 21, 1935. He made it through the eighth grade, but the need to work the family’s land was too great, and he went into the family business of farming.
Bass fell head over heels for Dora Jane (Chapman), and they were able to start a life with each other outside the crushing weight of the family farm. He began work at the Juvenile Shoe Company in Sarcoxie, where he worked (and was proudly union president) for 33 years. He also tended a farm of his own, which was first located in La Russell, and later outside of Sarcoxie.
After the shoe factory closed, Bass went to work at HE Williams. In 1990, Bass moved with Dora Jane from Missouri to Utah, where together they managed Sunshine Truckstop for 25 years. In 2007, they retired back to the family land in Missouri, where they were closer to their kids and grandkids.
Bass is survived by his two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister Sue.
